LUNA

Luna was taken in by a couple living in Calis (Turkiye) when she was a very young pup.

Neighbours confirm that she was always kept outside, even through the huge rain storms that hit Fethiye in the winter of 2024/5.

The couple moved house and left Luna behind to fend for herself at the villa.

When the landlords of the property returned to prepare the house for new tenants, they repeatedly kicked Luna into the street.

Luna was desperate and confused - all she knew was that home - so she kept returning and the owners escalated their cruelty which resulted in Luna going into permanent hiding behind bushes and underneath the house.

Unsurprisingly, Luna did not allow any human near her, she retreated into hiding if approached.

Neighbours contacted expat community groups and local charities but were told they were either all full, or in so much debt they could not take on any more food and vet costs.

I agreed to accept Luna as a rescue case and began to plan her capture and transfer. I spent more than 5 hours at the villa observing her patterns of behaviour and where she would hide.

It was clear that trapping her would further deepen her trauma and distrust so I opted for gentle sedatives provided by the highly recommended Sherlock Vets.

With a hire car and the help of neighbours and friends, we managed to feed the sedatives to Luna and eventually catch her - on Valentine’s Day 2025.

It took a while for Luna to trust and accept that she was in a safe environment, her trauma was deep but her true happy, affectionate and playful self emerged while she completed her 90 day quarantine period.

Oscar and Eddie, the other rescues I had at the time helped her come through it and now she’s an absolute joy.
