In 2009 I experienced the loss of my soulmate Kito, a much loved American Akita.
Kito was killed by a hit and run driver in a freak accident but it was on me to keep him safe and it was on me to have known what to do for him after the accident happened.
I failed him and I have lived with that regret ever since.
Those who have experienced a special bond with their animals understand the uniquely traumatic nature of this type of loss.
Losing him was devastating and the grief and guilt lead to the decision to never own another dog again. I know many people have made the same choice after going through similar pain.
D.R.E.A.M DOGS was created after I threw myself into helping dogs, owners, fosters and rescue shelters to fill the void left by Kito. It became a personal project to honour his memory.
It’s not a charity or business, just a private passion project I self-fund with donations/gifts from friends, family, adopters and supporters. None of the donations are ring-fenced to any one dog, whatever funds I receive are put towards the needs of the day and any other dogs (and sometimes cats) that may need help as I come across them.
My first rescue case happened in 2012 (see Molly’s story here). It involved collaboration and coordination with a local animal welfare charity and a veterinary surgeon on the Canary Island of Tenerife.
I was able to support her recovery, rehabilitation and training including vetting her adoptive parents and guiding her transition and adaptation to home life.
Years of research and educative input received from various dog behaviourists, therapists and trainers has helped me develop the skills and knowledge to support a variety of different case scenarios.
I am always learning, this is not my profession, just a personal passion project that I gave this name DREAM (dogs.rule.everything.around.me) simply because they do.
I hope to help more people avoid the mistakes I made and contribute towards more positive outcomes for dogs.
I’m grateful to Kito, the various dog professionals I’ve met and followed online and of course the rescued dogs I’ve worked with for almost 20 years who have taught me the most and made my life happier for it.
You can meet some of them here.
D.R.E.A.M DOGS is Kito’s living legacy project which is now dominating all my life choices, just as he did when he was alive - I went nowhere without him.
I know there are more D.R.E.A.M.ers out there. It would be amazing to connect with as many people as possible to do even more for dogs.
NOTE: I do NOT charge adoption fees and I do NOT charge transport fees. I will never profiteer from the rescue and rehoming of dogs.
Please make sure you research before donating to shelters and rescues, there are so many scams supported by loyal fundraisers on social media convincing people they are angels but behind closed doors, the dogs are neglected, never trained, given cheap food, left vulnerable to disease/infections, they develop health issues and trauma:s, suffer depression and in worse cases are chained and isolated as well as physically assaulted.
All DREAM dogs have 24/7 camera access that adopters and supporters can login to see where they eat, sleep, play at any time. They can even talk to the dogs via intercom. I do this because if I was donating to a dog rescue, I’d want to see how they are day-to-day, not just the photos and videos they provide and publish.
It’s hard to really know who is doing right by the dogs, but there are good ones out there.
I’m always happy to support anyone helping dogs or wanting to do similar work. I’ve developed a free guide/refresher for helping street dogs build their immune system here. I hope you find it useful.
If you’re wanting to help dogs and not sure how, I have a pdf immunity guide available upon request. Just email info@dreamdogs.org or check out the “Free Stuff” section of this website. ©D.R.E.A.M DOGS, 2025
